Reducing Closet Chaos!

I am someone who goes through phases of keeping my room clean. Sometimes I make sure everything is in it's place a a tucked away while other times clothes accumulate on my floor to make mountains. When it comes time to cleaning, especially throughout my closet, I keep many different tricks up my sleeve. So if you are looking for tips to reduce clutter and give your closet that organized, yet stylish looks, you've come to the right place!

First and foremost, you need to survey your space. Be realistic about where your things can go and where they can't. Choose where you place certain things wisely because you don't want to throw off the aesthetic appeal. You also need it figure out your personal preferences. For example, I hang my pants while my friend always folds them.

While we are on the topic of hanging things, (like my transition there ;) I love the look of those big wooden hangers however those just are not practical! They will reduce the amount of space you have available because of how large and clunky they are.

I definitely would recommend to opt for thin, felt hangers. The brand I have is called Real Simple and can be purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond. These will give you so much more space. Your clothes, also, will not slip off them! I have them in black, but I do have to say that I love the white ones also. Other brands also make the same style hangers in multitudes of colors which can be super fun to match to your room. However, I warn you before mixing up different hangers within the boundaries of your closet. In my opinion, that is the first step to a cluttered look.

I also would say to keep different articles of clothing separate. Have all your pants in one place and all your shirts in another. This will keep a cleaner look and also make finding certain items less of a headache of having to dig through other pieces.

When hanging things like jeans and tops that come in many arrays of lengths, washes, and hues it can be easy to make your closet look messy by mixing all of those colors together. Color coding is like the Holy Grail of closet organization.
1. You'll be able to find everything so much easier.
2. It looks really good!

For the most part I also have things going from short sleeves to long sleeves within their color range, however color trumps sleeve length in my opinion to keep that overall, organized look.

Another fun way to add color and appeal to your closet is displaying your shoes. Right in the middle of my closet I have a built in shelving unit that work perfect for displaying all of my boots and heels. Granted I don't wear all of those shoes very often but they look great on display! If you don't have shelves directly in your closet you can use something like a bookshelf to stack you shoes on.

I love to display my fun accessories like shoes, handbags, sunglasses, etcetera throughout my closet. I think it gives it a fun boutique-y kind of look. It's also a good way to be able to see everything, because for me if it's out of sight it's out of mind.

These are just some of my tips to organizing your closet. If you are interested in more let me know in the comments! I also have some dorm room organization tips so if any of you are off to college I could do a whole post on that! I love organizing, closets especially, so share your tips and tricks down below because I also love to change things up once in a while. Hope you enjoyed this post!
